ENERGY DEPARTMENT ACTION ENERGIZES POWER LINE PROPONENTS
It's the news that New York Regional Interconnect has been waiting for. The U.S. Department of Energy said yesterday that it considers much of New York state - including every county along the NYRI power line's proposed 190-mile route - a "national interest electric transmission corridor."

New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway Corp. is receiving a total of $1.5 million in option fees from the company wishing to build a controversial power line down its tracks in Oneida County, documents obtained by the O-D in a court fight show.

Commentary: Power line opponents point to fault in NYRI's plan
NYRI would have us believe its proposal to construct a 190-mile transmission line from Marcy to Rock Tavern in Orange County will improve the reliability of the existing electric transmission grid and relieve energy congestion by providing a means to transmit surplus upstate energy supplies to New York City.
